Villa del Mar Recognized as Hotel of the Year at Annual TCHTA Star Awards

Boutique Resort in Beautiful Grace Bay Beach Area Receives Top Honours

March 3, 2016 – Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands Villa del Mar is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as the 2015 Hotel of the Year in the annual Turks & Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association Star Awards event.

The TCHTA Star Awards

TCHTA Star Awards Villa del MarThe Turks & Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association event was launched in 2009 to cast a bright spotlight on the shining stars in the Turks & Caicos hotel and tourism industry.

Upon receipt of nominations by KPMG, half the nominations are voted on by TCHTA members and the other half by an independent panel of judges. The winners are kept secret until the gala event. This year a total of 131 nominations were received according to Magnetic Media.

Personnel Nominations from Villa del Mar

This year there were 15 association award categories available for nominations, including Bartender of the Year, Manager of the Year, Housekeeper of the Year and Employee of the Year. Villa del Mar was proud to nominate the following individuals for their superior efforts and professional dedication of the tourism industry in the Turks & Caicos Islands.

  • Lynco Williams for Supervisor of the Year
  • Sandra Eze for Manager of the Year
  • William Grank AKA Captain Bill for Bartender of the Year
  • Tendra Musgrove for Hotelier of the Year

Villa del Mar acknowledges the efforts of Ms. Musgrove, who accepted the award on behalf of our initimate 42-unit resort, to spearhead the nominations and bring as much attention as possible to the resort team.

Nomination for Villa del Mar

Villa del Mar submitted its nomination for consideration in the Hotel of the Year category. “As a small resort, we tend to be overshadowed by the big name, luxury hotels on Grace Bay. But this year we felt that we had accomplished so much in 2015, and we are gearing up for an exceptional 2016, so we felt we ought to put our name in the hat,” states Alan Lawley. “We are deeply honored to have been selected as Hotel of the Year from a truly remarkable list of nominees. We congratulate all the hotels for their efforts to showcase the culture of hospitality within the Turks and Caicos Islands.”

Three highlights from 2015 include:

  • February 2015: Villa del Mar was named on the list of Best Hotels in the Turks and Caicos by U.S. News & World Report.
  • April 2015: Villa del Mar was recognized in the 2015 Travelers’ Choice list for Top 25 Hotels for Families – Caribbean.
  • November 2015: Villa del Mar received a Hotels.com award for its 4.6 rating out of a possible 5 for “exceptional guest ratings and reviews.

In February 2016, Villa del Mar was recognized as Best Turks and Caicos Hotels in the new Best Hotels rankings summary announced by U.S. News and World Report Travel.
