The Turks and Caicos Islands know how to promote love, and the Chocolate Lovers Showcase is a Valentine’s Day Event on Providenciales that surprises, delights and satisfies.
Mmmmmmm! Can’t you just taste it?
Sea snails, battered, deep fried, a dash of hot pepper sauce and smothered with chocolate. Yes!! Chocolate!
It’s as creative as any Caribbean dish can get, and it was one of the winning entries in the annual Chocolate Lovers Showcase which is held every February on Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
History of Chocolate Lovers Showcase in Providenciales
The chocolate extravaganza began in 2011 when the local Salvation Army, along with O’Soleil Restaurant, hosted the event to help raise funds to support the organization’s local children’s hot lunch program. Since its inception, attendance, participation and sponsorship have grown significantly and the proceeds have doubled. In 2014 there were delicious entries created by chefs representing Parrot Cay, Grace Bay Club, Parallel 23, Blue Haven, Amanyara, Beach House, Pelican Cay, Somewhere Cafe and West Bay Club. The event is now entering its 5th year.
2015 Event Details
The 2015 festivities will take place in the courtyard of the Regent Palms Resort. On February 7, 2015, from 8 to 10 p.m., local restaurants will showcase their dishes, with the hope of claiming bragging rights to the best chocolate creations.
Under a canopy of stars, platter after platter of mouth-watering pastries, squares, desserts, savoury creations and even chocolate inspired beverages are brought out for guests to savour. This year, among the 13 competitors vying for the honour of Best Sweet, People’s Choice, and Best Savoury are Fire & Ice, Kitchen 218, and Melt.
Music by DJ Dayoh and a live auction at 9pm enhance the evening festivities which celebrate all things chocolate. The sweetest part of the night is at the conclusion when event organizers present the cheque to the Salvation Army that will pay for the hot lunch program for the island’s needy children in the months ahead.
