Come November, it’s time once again to celebrate all things “Conch” (pronounced conk) in the Caicos! The collection of Caribbean cuisine and culture will “conch”-quer your taste buds! It’s time for the 10th Annual Turks and Caicos Conch Festival. And this year Villa Del Mar Resort at Grace Bay, Providenciales is an event sponsor. Alan Lawley, Director of Development and Operations at Villa Del Mar, is enthusiastic to be on the Board of the Directors and to be a part of what has become a hugely successful annual event in Providenciales.
The festival celebrates the conch, the very symbol of Caicos culture and tradition. It serves up delicious cuisine, cooking contests and calypso sounds. Last year’s festival included an array of speed and finesse contests in conch preparation skills, cooking and presentation. This year local restaurant chefs will again have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves, bring their very best culinary craft to the table and take the coveted “Best” prize home. It’s an honor that brings the cooks out of the kitchen and into the spotlight. There will be various categories so cooks can enter according to their special areas of expertise.
But the Conch Festival is not only about cuisine but celebrates the culture and the traditions of the Turks and Caicos Islands. The event will be seasoned with the sounds of calypso beats and arrangements. There will be performances by a variety of artists and events that appeal to all ages. It’s a fete for the family, a tradition not to be missed in any Turks and Caicos island adventure vacation.
