The Beaches of Providenciales – Southern Beaches
Part 4 in a Four Part Series about the Beaches of Providenciales
In previous articles about the beaches of Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, we’ve toured the Leeward Beaches which offer good swimming and snorkeling, explored Long Bay Beach which offers a chance to get away from it all, and taken the rugged road to the Western Beaches which offer natural beauty and history. So why would you travel a little bit further to visit the beaches of Providenciales – Southern Beaches? The silky sand and crystal clear waters you’ll find there make them a must on any Providenciales beach bucket list.
Getting to Sapodilla Bay Beach
Locals call it the children’s beach because of its calm, protected waters. Sapodilla Bay Beach is a 15 minute drive from Villa del Mar. Take Leeward Highway, turn left on South Dock Road, and then right on Chalk Sound Road; parking is available on Sopadilla Hill or Harbour Gates Close. This is the ideal beach for the whole family. The sand is super fine and soft and the water is warm and inviting. Venture up the hill and you’ll be wowed by a spectacular vista and fascinating rock carvings with inscriptions on them dating back as early as the 1790’s.
Getting to Five Cays Beach
Situated in one of the original settlements on the island is Five Cays Beach, a 5000 foot crescent shaped beach. To arrive here from South Dock Road, turn onto Five Cays Road, and travel about 1/2 kilometer turning left before the community center. Another beach access is via Bugaloo’s Restaurant area. The sand is very fine and the water clear and shallow. There is a southeasterly trade wind which, while it provides refreshing air on a hot day, can cause the waters to be not as calm as other areas.
Getting to Taylor Bay Beach
If your idea of a great beach is pristine water and tranquility, then head for Taylor Bay Beach. About a 25 minute drive from Villa del Mar, this is the perfect spot for snorkeling and swimming. You can walk out for at least a mile in very shallow water with a soft sandy bottom to protect tiny toes. The water is pristine affording snorkelers top notch viewing. A short distance away is Chalk Sound an extremely popular kayaking site. Its National Park status means there’s no interruption or noise from power boats. Here you can get extremely close to nature.
So don’t let these short travel distances deter you from your pursuit of discovering the best Providenciales beaches. The velvety sand and blueness of the water will not disappoint.
