Thursday Fish Fry – An Authentic Food and Culture Experience

A vacation to Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands is a chance to really get away from it all. This weekly family-friendly, Caribbean culture-fest begins at 6pm and attracts locals and visitors for an unforgettable experience of the Caicos Islands. It all takes place at Bight Park, Lower Bight Road, Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos.

Think of it as the backyard barbecue meets the public marketplace. Visitors have a chance to taste authentic cuisine and mingle with the locals. As tourist board representative David Fenimore says “visitors will get a chance to experience the local food, culture and music”. ¹ And if the guest reviews are anything to go by, once you go to the Thursday Fish Fry, you will want to go over and over again … as no trip to Providenciales will ever feel complete without this experience.

Nothing half-baked here!

In fact, we’re talking grilled. Fish, seasoned and sizzling, jerk chicken and corn on the cob all served up by local restaurant merchants. Rice is dressed up with crab or peas, or with hot conch fritters on the side. Even old standards are done up Caicos style, like Lobster Mac ‘N Cheese. And surely you’ll feel like you’re in the midst of a truly Caribbean gastronomic experience when the vendors appeal not only to your taste but to your ears as well with names like: Froggies on Da Beach, Blue Hills Native Cuisine, and Hole in the Wall.

Also on tap are live performances by local bands such as Lee Forbes and the Force, a five piece band playing tropical and reggae music. Steel drums, maracas and even handsaws create irresistible rhythms long into the evening.

We encourage our guests to arrive early or take a taxi to the Fish Fry – as parking can be challenging – and to stay late to experience the lively Caribbean party atmosphere. The Thursday Fish Fry brings the sights, sounds and flavors all to one place and is a definite “must do” during any Turks and Caicos vacation.
