Provo Golf Club with Course Ambassador, David Feherty
“Feherty Approved” Caribbean Golf Course Open To All
A retired, world-famous professional golfer, golf reporter and bestselling author on the sport is endorsing your golf course saying, “Wouldn’t you rather be here?”
What better stamp of approval do you need?
The Provo Golf Club on Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands has itself a new golf ambassador, the highly celebrated David Feherty, and it is promoting the course as “Feherty approved”. The arrangement which was announced mid-2015 is already garnering attention and definitely helping to put Provo Golf Club on both the tourist and golf enthusiast’s map.
Feherty joins Director of Golf, Dave Douglas, and Associate Professional, Sean Wilson, both PGA Members (Canadian) who are both excited to have Feherty in the fold and representing the golf course.
Who is David Feherty?
Known for his quick wit and down to earth approach, Feherty had a successful 20-year career as a pro golfer primarily on the European tour, including highlights such as serving as a team member of 1991 Ryder Cup team and ranking high on the European Order of Merit.
He also played on the PGA Tour, and placed second at the New England Classic in 1994. In 1997 he retired from the golf circuit when he was offered the opportunity to act as reporter and golf analyst with CBS Sports. In 2011 he began working with the Golf Channel and debuted his own golf talk show “Feherty”. He joined NBC in 2015 as part of the golf tournament coverage team and he continues his golf series with the Golf Channel.
And…why Provo Golf Club?
So how does a golf broadcasting celebrity end up as a Caribbean ambassador you might ask? After a visit to the islands in 2010, Feherty’s wife was quite taken with the place and thought it would be an ideal setting for the whole family to enjoy and relax. Feherty was impressed with the local Provo golf course which is off Grace Bay Road, about a four-minute drive from Villa del Mar Condo Resort in the prestigious Grace Bay Beach area.
His enthusiasm for the sport, his extensive professional background and his natural affability paved the way to the appointment. Nowadays David Feherty has taken his golf persona to another new level. In 2014 he began performing stand-up comedy and is now on tour across the continent with “Feherty Off Tour: Wandering Around on His Own.” It’s a highly entertaining show drawing on Feherty’s golf and life experiences.
The shows are also a prime avenue to promote Provo Golf Club. Sean Wilson from Provo Golf is present before the show to share information about the beautiful Turks and Caicos area and to invite people to enter the draw for a free vacation to the islands. It’s a reciprocal arrangement and a perfect fit: a golf celebrity offering his upbeat love of golf and a golf course wanting to open its doors to golf enthusiasts.
Provo Golf Course is now “Feherty approved” and when you visit Providenciales you too can definitely look “fore”-ward to a round of golf that’s fantastic, fun and endorsed by a famous fairway aficionado.
