Providenciales Italian Restaurant – Lupo
Turks and Caicos Eatery Dishes out Homemade Italian Pasta
It’s a simple but delightful setting, but what’s coming out of this Providenciales Italian restaurant goes way beyond ordinary or average.
Situated in the Regent Village, about an 11 minute walk from Villa del Mar is Lupo, an Italian restaurant which strives to give customers the true taste of Italy.
“Absolutely fabulous authentic homemade pasta! Really nice comfort food that made our arrival on TCI so comfortable.” said one Trip Advisor reviewer.
The Ambiance at Lupo
The restaurant is inviting. The first thing you see when you arrive is the use of white everywhere. Set against the cream coloured building front are the white tables and chairs on the terrace and a white picket fence along the sidewalk. There is a clean, fresh feel about the place. In the evening the outside terrace is lit up by strings of lights overhead which add charm to the atmosphere.
The restaurant is new having only opened in early 2013 and yet has been chalking up great reviews on Trip Advisor ever since. One theme keeps coming up in reviews by visitors and the food’s authenticity. Guests repeatedly talk about how much Lupo reminds them of their restaurant experience in Italy.
Said one recent reviewer, “The food and the ambiance at this intimate, Italian restaurant is lovely.”
Dining at Lupo
As the restaurant website states the food is “cuccina rustica” which roughly translated means rustic kitchen. It is home cooking, the type you’d expect nonna to make. The menu, which in a further nod to its Italian authenticity, is written both in English and Italian. It features real classic Italian fare like the meatball panini or orecchiette with homemade Italian sausage. The pasta is fresh, it’s all made on site.
While the cuisine is fresh and based on Italian traditions, there are interesting twists in presentation or combinations. The fries which accompany some entrees are not the usual potato variety. Instead Lupo offers up polenta fries. Polenta, a staple of northern Italy, is a kind of cornmeal porridge that is often accompanied by cheese or meat. Lupo reinterprets the traditional dish and presents it on the side in crispy finger licking slices. The gourmet pizzas are not the typical round shape but are more oblong because they’re made with fresh flat breads. Sometimes they’re topped not with the typical mozzarella but creamy melted gorgonzola and caramelized pears for a sweet and savoury pizza.
The flavours of the Turks and Caicos Islands are also included in the menu at Lupo. There is a seafood pizza which features shrimp and conch, a linguini dish that includes tiger shrimp and caicos conch, a pappardelle that introduces slow roasted North Caicos pork, and an entrée that showcases local red snapper.
