The Must-Experience Music Scene in Providenciales
Great Music in the Turks and Caicos Islands with the Brother Laporte
Music is a part of the soul of Turk and Caicos Islands. There are musicians playing every night in venues all over the islands. Music is everywhere.
But you can’t find any musicians more home-grown than brothers Jervon and Janardo Laporte.
For Jervon it was the saxophone that caught his eye. He was fascinated with its shape and its keys. He took no formal lessons but learned to play through constant practice and by sound and memory. What began as a hobby outside of his day job soon turned into a professional gig.
Since opting for a full-time music career Jervon has never looked back. In 2004 he formed a solo band called Sounds of Sax. He has performed both locally and internationally for the World Travel Awards, the Ultra Awards and in 2007 opening for Air Supply at the T & C Music & Cultural Festival. His CD titled Feels So Good was released in July 2012.
For Janardo, the youngest child in the family, music was just a part of everyday life. And Janardo excelled on every instrument he picked up: drums, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone and even clarinet. While performing across the U.S. with the Turks and Caicos Mass Choir, Janardo realized, like his brother, that professional music was his goal. He has played locally and in the U.S. and released the CD Searchin’ in 2010.
Jervon and Janardo both play saxophone and both have experienced professional success, but their most significant common ground is their passion for performing before an audience. So, if you are wondering where to go for great live music in the Turks and Caicos Islands, Janardo performs every Thursday at Fresh Catch, the restaurant he now manages, and where he lives his motto – music and food feed the soul. And big brother Jervon is a regular feature at resorts such as Beaches and Amanyara in the Turks and Caicos, as well as at private dinners, celebrations, and weddings. His desire to communicate through his music is obvious. When he unexpectedly dedicated a song to a listener, the recipient commented, “I was so touched. He dedicated a few songs to me and they were all unforgettable. Thank you for making my birthday so special.” For the Laporte brothers, the real experience is in creating and communicating for those listening.
Music has come home.
