Home-style Cooking on Providenciales
Local Eatery Offers More than Delicious Food on Grace Bay
His mom’s Peas Soup & Dough has long been a local favorite.
His ability to play saxophone is known around the islands and well beyond.
But it’s the combination of the great food and his music talent that makes Janardo Laporte’s Fresh Catch Local Bites restaurant such as special place.
Situated in Grace Bay, Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Island, Fresh Catch has always been a favorite place for locals. They have lined up for Mrs. Jacynth Laporte’s delicious pea soup, or eagerly awaited the mac’n cheese. ,
If you’re looking for local authentic cooking, this is the place. The menu offers the flavors of the islands like jerked chicken, fried plantains, cracked conch, peas & rice and chicken souse. American dishes are also available but done up Fresh Catch style. As one happy customer remarked, “The hamburgers are double-decker, and are enriched with bacon and the works.” Even basic comfort food like macaroni & cheese isn’t basic anymore. “The Mac’n Cheese is made with three cheeses,” said one woman, “and one can understand why it is on the menu – get there before the lunch rush for it sells out quickly”.
Visitors are giving food a definite thumbs up.
“The food is fresh and delicious” commented one woman. “I would recommend Fresh Catch to anyone looking for great local food,” said another. There are plenty of seafood options on the menu like blackened grouper, grilled lobster, conch, snapper and shrimp. It’s local of course; in fact, visitors can buy fish right on the premises to take home to cook. Fresh Catch will even season it.
But it isn’t just food that brings people in and keeps them coming back. There’s a casual, cozy, welcoming feel. One visitor attested that, “on entering I was greeted with a warm smile.” It’s a smaller restaurant, but the soulful sounds of live music are all-embracing. On Thursday nights when Janardo picks up his saxophone and begins to play, his passion for music is obvious.
Wednesday evenings are popular at Fresh Catch as well. From 6pm to 10pm, guests enjoy a buffet of local cuisine including conch, lobster and much for for only $45. If you’re feeling up to a walk, the restaurant is located 10-12 minutes away from Villa del Mar.
It’s local talent, local taste and local hospitality at Fresh Catch. Visitors might want to do what the locals do and stop by this eatery tucked away in the heart of Grace Bay.
