Latest Movie Production Shows Continued Appeal of Islands

An MI5 agent is on the lam. He finds himself amidst a sting operation.

It’s action, adventure and allegations: it’s Turks and Caicos.

Turks and Caicos still boast all these renowned tourist attractions, but it is also the name of the third installment in the new BBC spy trilogy about MI5 agent Johnny Worricker. “Turks and Caicos”, which follows the wildly successful first film “Page Eight”, is being shot exclusively on the very same islands.

This is certainly not the first time the Turks and Caicos Islands have served as a film backdrop. There have been a variety of films and television episodes set here: “Long Lost Son”, “Paradise Virus”, “Chupacabra: Dark Seas” and “Witches of the Caribbean.” No doubt about it, the islands make for a spectacular location for any story and draw the eye of any director.

“I came here for a holiday a few years ago, and it just struck me as quite an extraordinary spot. It seemed a peculiarly modern place that had a lot to say about what was going on in the world today,” said David Hare, director for Turks and Caicos in the interview featured in the Worricker Media Pack titled Turks & Caicos and Salting The Battlefield.

Television producers are attracted to this location too. In 2007 an episode of Gene Simmons’ “Family Jewels” focused on Simmons toying with idea of buying his own private island and calling it “Genetopia”. The episode was shot exclusively on the islands and featured islanders, local cultural activities and even the Premier himself in the story.

The privacy and lush beauty of the Islands prompts celebrities to buy property here. Oprah Winfrey, Donna Karen, Christie Brinkley and Keith Richards all have homes in the Turks and Caicos. Some stars have chosen to tie the knot here. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, and more recently, Bruce Willis and Emma Hemming, chose Parrot Cay as the location for their special day.
