Providenciales Ice Cream Shops: 3 choices, plenty of flavors!
Sunshine and Ice Cream Make the Best Partners in the Turks and Caicos Islands
I scream.
You scream.
We all scream for ice cream.
But on Providenciales there’s no need to shout because this yummy dessert is not only readily available but comes in a wide wild variety of flavors and creations.
Giggles
Let’s start our “scoop” with a visit to ice cream shops closest to Villa del Mar resort. Giggles, located at the Port of Call Village on Grace Bay Road is about a 6 minute walk from Villa del Mar. This old-fashioned ice cream parlour is set in a tropical courtyard amidst shops and restaurants and offers a good selection of ice cream flavors and candy treats.
A visit here is a great way to cool off from the mid-day sun. Giggles also recently opened a second downtown location on Industrial Park Road which features cotton candy coloured seating and multi-coloured polka dot walls that remind you of the fancy sprinkles on top of your ice cream cone. A wide selection of tasty ice creams are offered like Birthday Cake, Espresso Chocolate, Superman and Peppermint Stick. The shop also sells milkshakes, floats, smoothies, and ice cream cakes and pies. Walk in and take your treats away with you or relax in the outdoor seating area.
Island Scoop
About a 10 minute walk from Villa del Mar is Island Scoop located in Grace Bay Plaza.
“Proudly made in the Turks and Caicos” says their sign referring to the fact that each of the ice creams is made right on site. The product list is long and features creative names like Chunky Monkey, Peter Pumpkin, and Raspberry Kiss. There’s even a flavor called Obamarama in the White House! It’s clear the owner and staff enjoy coming up with new flavors and new ways to please your palate. It’s a cool treat at the end of your walk or bike adventure, and there’s comfy outdoor seating in the patio.
Melt
Our final mention puts a very creative swirl on top of this scoop. Located in the Regent Village, about a 10 minute walk from Villa del Mar is Melt. This ice cream dessert bar appeals not only to your taste buds but also to your creative soul. Visitors use words like “whimsical”, “quirky”, and “funky”. When you step through the door, you’re immediately welcomed into an inviting, charming and creative environment. There are cozy sofas and chairs for adults and little pastel coloured tables and chairs for little ones. A colourful carousel horse happily stands near the door. On one wall is a massive menu hand painted by Davidson Louis, a talented artist who is also a server at Melt.
Visitors can order from a variety of special coffees, wine and bubbly beverages at the champagne bar and choose from decadent desserts like Utterly Nutterly sundaes, coconut scones and key lime tarts. But Melt goes way beyond the world of sweets. There’s a quaint gift shop brimming with interesting local items. There’s a piano and visitors are invited to sit down and play. Every other Saturday there’s an open microphone for anyone keen to share their vocal talents.
While some may find that these cool treats are more expensive than back home, it just makes sense as most of the food supplies in the Turks and Caicos Islands are imported in to the country. So forget about counting dollars for a few moments and explore the tasty creations while savoring this holiday time with your family and friends.
There’s a cone or a cup piled high with flavor and fun just waiting for you on Providenciales. No screaming necessary!
