Providenciales Budget-Friendly Restaurant: Turks Kebab
Fresh, Friendly and Comforting Mediterranean Food in the Turks and Caicos
If you’re looking for interesting cultural combinations of food, then you should visit Turks Kebab which specializes in “Turk”ish and Caicos fare. This Providenciales budget-friendly restaurant brings the flavours of the eastern Mediterranean into the Caribbean.
Located off Grace Bay Road, just down the street from the Seven Stars Resort, is Turks Kebab.
“Mediterranean Restaurant” says the sign out front. The cuisine is both Greek and Turkish reflecting the chef’s heritage. The “Turks” in the restaurant name is a clever play on the island location of Turks and Caicos and the business ownership.
Sample Homemade Food at Budget-Friendly Prices
The small restaurant is situated by Alverna’s Craft Market, a bustling outdoor market which features the works of local artists and vendors. The Turks Kebab setting is simple, a small cottage style building with a clean welcoming patio area. But visitors quickly discover the draw here is the delicious food.
Menu items are based on the Turkish doner kebab, made from meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie which is then sliced and served in a variety of ways. Turks Kebab offers up the dish to customers as the Turkish Adana or Iskender Shish Kebab or the Greek Gyro or even the Mexican Tortilla Wrap. But owners don’t overlook the local Caicos flavours. A jerk chicken salad and a special Caribbean jerk fish burger are included on the menu list.
Prices are reasonable compared to other restaurants on the island. The eggplant salad will set you back $6.50, and the falafel pita made with chickpeas and served in pita bread will cost only $8.50. Main courses such as the iskender kebab are priced at under $14, with most tasty offerings coming in around $10.
One word keeps popping up in customer reviews: “fresh”. Customers rave that veggies are crisp, not wilted and the bread is crispy and warm. Even the hot sauce served is original and made on site. “Zemar’s Hot Sauce” is the chef’s own creation. The sauce repeatedly garners praise. Visitors use words like “awesome spicy”, “delicious” and “the perfect kick”.
So stop by Turks Kebab and enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean in the Caicos Islands. Like many who visit you may find yourself becoming a regular there!
