Where are the best beaches in the Turks and Caicos?

Experience the Unique Charm of the Beaches on Providenciales and Neighboring Islands

Soft white sand that stretches out to meet sparkling turquoise waters.

It’s the idyllic description of a Caribbean beach.

But to spotlight the best beaches that Turks and Caicos Islands offer, it might take a little more to spell that out to you.

B is for Beauty: Surrounded by Nature’s Bounty

Winner of 2014 Traveller’s Choice Award by Trip Advisor, as one of top 25 beaches in the world, Grace Bay Beach is a twelve mile stretch off the northeast coast of Providenciales. You can get there off Lower Bight Road near the Provo Sailing Club. If it’s a beautiful beach you seek, Grace Bay will truly take your breath away. Its white powdery sand stretches mile after mile. The cerulean blue water is pristine and clear.

Raved one tourist on TripAdvisor, “What can I say that hasn’t been said; it is simply stellar, this beach. It just goes on forever and has the most calm and beautiful water you’ve ever seen. The jewel of the Turks and Caicos Islands.” 1

E is for Exploration: There are Activities Aplenty

Beaches can afford visitors a place to explore nature. One such beach, located off the northeast coast of Providenciales, is Leeward Bay. Here you can beachcomb for miles or snorkel in crystal clear waters.

“Wow! The water is crystal clear and beautiful…,” said a TripAdvisor reviewer, “we found a lot of conch shells even without our snorkeling gear.”2

At its eastern most part, Leeward Bay Beach provides the perfect place to set off by kayak or paddle board and make your way to the stunning secluded island of Little Water Cay. Also known as Iguana Island, this cay is home to the native rock iguana. Visitors have the rare opportunity to see these creatures in their own setting.

Because of northeast trade winds, Long Bay Beach is the ideal spot if you’re a kiteboarding enthusiast.

“Miles of unspoiled beach on the shores of shallow, warm water. Fantastic kiteboarding spot!”3 said one woman on TripAdvisor.

Located on the southeast coast of Providenciales, Long Bay boasts shallow waters which go on for miles allowing novice kiteboarders the chance to walk in and out easily and master kite techniques. Winds are consistent and free from gusts. Even for non-kiteboarders the beach offers a place for rest and relaxation whether strolling on soft sand or cooling off in knee-deep crystal waters.

A is for Alone Time: Shhhh…Let’s Talk Privacy

Some spots in the Turks and Caicos Islands can be buzzing with activities and that can mean crowds. If you’re pining for privacy, Taylor Bay Beach and Bambarra Beach will fit the bill. Located on the southwest coast, in the Five Cays areas, Taylor Bay Beach boasts very soft sand and a very long stretch of shallow water in a crescent shaped bay. Lack of traffic in the shallow waters, makes it an ideal spot for families to spend some quiet time.

Further afield, located on the northeast coast of Middle Caicos is Bambarra Beach. It is an ideal place to escape the crowds. Because the warm Caribbean water here is shallow, visitors can paddle about or even snorkel.

“Bambarra Beach is long and beautiful with emerald colored water at the shore line turning to deep blue a few hundred yards off the coast. A million post cards could be made here,”4 raved a reviewer with TripAdvisor.

C is for Creatures: Marine Life Abounds

If you’re heading to the beach to catch a glimpse of the Caribbean creatures that congregate, then point your compass to Bight Beach. Situated southwest of Grace Bay, on the east coast of Providenciales, Bight Beach is bursting with colorful flora and fauna. The nearby Bight Reef is a favorite place for snorkelers because of the amazing array of marine life including coral, snapper, parrot fish, grouper, and turtles.

“We took the short walk down the beach to Bights Reef. Are we glad we did! Spectacular reefs and fish just steps off the beach. What an amazing little treasure trove,”5 commented one traveler on TripAdvisor.

H is for History: Learning about the Past

While scanning the stunning scenery of some beaches, you can also catch a fascinating glimpse into the past.

Located on the eastern side of Providenciales is Sapodilla Bay, a secluded beach – not far from Taylor Bay – that is home to an array of remarkable rock carvings. There are pictures and inscriptions in the rocks, some dating back to the 1700’s. The names in many cases are those of early pioneers to the islands.

Governor’s House Beach on Grand Turks gives tourists the spectacular beach and museum combo. It takes its name from the residence of the British governor which the beach fronts. Edged with casuarinas, this is one of the more quieter beaches in the Turks and Caicos Islands. It’s just a short walk to nearby Cockburn Town which boasts 18th and 19th century Bermudian architecture and is home to the Turks and Caicos National Museum.
