Chinson’s Grill Shack, an extremely popular restaurant on Providenciales, offers its visitors both delicious Chinese and Caribbean cuisine. Located off Leeward Highway, about an 11 minute drive from Villa del Mar, Chinson’s Grill Shack is a well known eatery that began as a response to the needs of people who had moved to the islands.
“It’s been around about 15 years. At the time we started there was a growing Jamaican population. I felt we could begin to give them a taste of Jamaica,” says owner Allan Hutchinson in this interview with Deandrea Hamilton on Turquoise Morning.
Over the years chefs worked hard creating, tasting and testing their dishes in an effort to achieve the authentic flavours of Jamaica. Today while visitors repeatedly describe the food as “out of this world”, “delicious”, and “amazing”, owner Hutchinson takes real satisfaction from knowing the food coming out of his kitchen tastes like the real thing.
Says Hutchinson in the same interview, “Even Jamaicans who come here say it tastes authentic.”

Chinson was already appreciated by islanders for its great food, but when one visitor’s rave reviews on TripAdvisor in 2011 spurred an avalanche of positive feedback, customer numbers significantly increased and Hutchinson and his staff have never looked back. The menu is extensive with two cuisine listings in one. It features Caribbean favourites like curry goat with rice and fried plantains, or stewed oxtails with butter beans and plantains. But on another part of the menu, there’s a massive inventory of Chinese items like lemon chicken, beef and broccoli, shrimp with oyster sauce, lobster cantonese, and chicken in mango sauce.
The quaint colourful cafe building features a large outdoor wooden deck with a bar at one end and numerous wooden picnic tables all around. Visitors can dine shaded by large umbrellas and lovely trees.
It’s the kind of relaxed atmosphere that’s ideal at the end of a busy vacation day. The service is top notch and customers come back repeatedly.
