Adopt a Puppy From Turks and Caicos
TCSPCA Offers Many Ways To Support Dogs Looking for Loving Homes
Christmas is coming!
In the Turks and Caicos Islands a Potcake can be a wonderful gift to get at this time of year. But you’d be wrong if you thought it was a delicious, lick your lips kind of a treat. In fact, this gift will probably lick your face.
Believe it or not, a Potcake is a Caribbean term for a puppy. Its name is derived from the leftover foods “caked” on the bottom of the “pots” from which islanders fed stray dogs years ago. If you’re visiting the Turks and Caicos Islands, you have the opportunity to experience the real spirit of Christmas by adopting a Potcake from the Turks and Caicos Society for the Prevention and Cruelty to Animals (TCSPCA).
Adopting From TCSPCA
On the islands there is a smaller residential population, so it’s challenging to find loving homes for stray and rescued animals. TCSPCA has a thriving foster and adoption program, and visitors to the islands can be a huge part of helping these animals. Adoption is straightforward. Each puppy is veterinarian certified and comes with a medical certificate so that you can go enter through US and Canada Customs. You carry your little dog in a pet carrier that has been approved by the airline so there’s no stress for the animal in having to be placed in cargo.
Why Adopt A Potcake?
First, adoption means these animals get a second chance, an opportunity to enjoy a happy healthy life. Second, Potcakes make great pets because they are intelligent, loyal and enthusiastic.
TCSPCA Fundraising Programs
TCSPCA’s adoption program as well as other services they provide like medical attention, spaying and neutering programs, and education, all cost money. TCSPCA survives solely on donations from island people and visitors. Fundraising is critical. The TCSPCA hosts a couple of significant events in December: The Christmas Shoppe and the Beach Bonfire Barbecue. Both of these events not only generate funds but contribute to the strong island spirit each year.
Christmas Shoppe
The annual Christmas Shoppe is a fun-fueled family event featuring locally made gifts, presents for pets, toys and crafts, food and beverages, and activities like pony rides and face painting.
Beach Bonfire Barbecue
Another favourite get together for islanders is the TCSPCA Beach Bonfire Barbecue. Traditionally held at the oceanside Bay Bistro. the evening celebrations include a delicious dinner, live music and a silent auction. The island community gives generously to the event providing an array of wonderful auction items and door prizes.
How To Donate to TCSPCA
Christmas is approaching, and it’s the perfect time to join in the spirit of giving. By giving the gift of life to a potcake, you’ll be giving yourself a gift too. You’ll take away from your trip to the islands a living memory who will rapidly become your best friend. If you are unable to open your home and adopt a puppy from Turks and Caicos at this time, you may wish to support the TCSPCA by donating online by clicking here.
